Sounds of Manila is an all-Filipino band based in the New York/ New Jersey area. The band was formed by Ronnie Sabangan (bassist) and his wife, Suzanne Lansangan-Sabangan (female lead vocalist and ‘Academic Freedom Band’ female vocalist), and they later invited their friends and co-musicians to join them. Sounds of Manila also consists of veteran musician, Bobby de Leon (keyboard player and musical director of famed Filipino artists: Pilita Corales, Anthony Castelo, and Gloria Papin), Hermie Angeles (male lead vocalist, ‘Tanghalan ng Kampeon’ finalist, and Cultural Center of the Philippines stage actor from the play "Aguinaldo 1896"), Jojo Gendrano (guitarist), and JR Gendrano (drummer). The Gendrano brothers are also members of ‘It’s Simply Green’ (La-Salle band).
Sounds of Manila, as its name represents, brings to its audience the authentic Manila sound – a mixed genre of the music that has been most enjoyed in the Philippines. The band’s repertoire is a blend of popular music, light rock, light jazz, country rock, R & B, and Original Pilipino Music (OPM). The music of Sounds of Manila ranges from the classic ‘60s and ‘70s to the most revered songs of the ‘80s and ‘90s.
